Sirimon Route – Your Gateway to Mount Kenya’s Summit

Sirimon route is the most popular route on Mt. Kenya that leads to its summit. It is regarded as one of the most scenic routes and also the easier route as it has a much gradual ascent / rise up the mountain.

Main features of the Sirimon Route

It approaches the Mt. Kenya from the North Western part of the mountain.
The climb starts from the Sirimon national park gate which can be accessed by driving there.
It has a steady gradual ascent allowing for better acclimatization thus helping minimize high altitude sickness.

A very scenic route with picturesque views of the Mackinder’s valley and the 3 main summits of Mt. Kenya (Batian, Nelion and Pt. Lenana), open moorlands, rugged valleys and lush forests.
The most off the beaten track up Mt. Kenya.

This route is 15 kms long and takes one 4-5 days to reach the summit.
Accommodation on Sirimon route is dormitory style huts. Space for camping is also available at Liki North hut, Shipton’s hut and Old Moses hut.

Shipton’s camp and Old Moses camp are permanent sites on the route with great views of the peaks.
In conclusion, Sirimon route is highly recommended to the less experienced climbers for it has a gradual and steady ascent. The route can also be combined with other routes to maximize your time on Mt. Kenya and explore more parts of the mountain. That is, you can ascent via the Sirimon route and descend via Chogoria route or Naro Moru route.
