Naro Moru Route – Fastest Ascent to Mount Kenya’s Summit

Naro Moru route is known for its quick and direct ascent to the summit at Point Lenana (4,985m). It is one of the popular routes on the mountain though not among the scenic ones.

Main features of Naro Moru route

It approaches the mountain from the West in Naro Moru town and ascends via the same route.
The climb starts at the Naro Moru park gate which also features the Mt. Kenya national park headquarters.

Day one on the mountain you go through bamboo and lush forests and on day two you go through woodlands before you enter into the alpine heath.

The route features dense bamboo and woodland zones that provide good wildlife sightings while on the mountain.

Accommodation in this route is in huts at Met Station hut and Mackinder’s camp. Camping areas are also available.

This route can be quite crowded with hikers as it is well established at the fastest route to Point Lenana.

Outstanding features on the route include the Teleki valley (offers views of the tyndall glacier), Vivienne falls, Mackinder’s valley and the Vertical Bog.

Averagely, the climb to the summit via this route takes 3-4 days.

This route is a round trip up and down the mountain. Meaning you ascend to the summit via this route. Also take your descent from the mountain still via this route.
