The Chogoria route is considered as the most picturesque and scenic route on Mt. Kenya. Its most appealing and stunning feature is the routes’ physical scenery.
Mt. Kenya has 8 different routes that can take you up and down the scenic mountain with distinctive vegetation zones. While on Mt. Kenya, one can expect to encounter / spot wildlife during ascent or descent, giving an adventure of a life time to the climbers / hikers.
Mount Kenya has 3 main peaks, that is Batian (5,199 m), Nelion (5,188 m) and Lenana (4,985 m). Choosing the right route makes for a successful, enjoyable and adventurous hiking / climbing experience.

Main features of the Chogoria route
It approaches the mountain on the Eastern side from Chogoria town through the Chogoria settlement up to the Chogoria park gate.
Hikers always drive through the jungle at the start of the route to the Meru bandas.
The most scenically beautiful route on Mt. Kenya and also considered longer than the other roues leading to the summit, the 3rd highest peak on the mountain, Point Lenana.
Chogoria is also usually used as a descent route after ascending the mountain on other routes.
Outstanding features along this route include Lake Ellis, Mugi hill, Lake Michaelson, the Temple, Nithi falls, the Giant’s Billiards table, and the Nithi Gorge.
Accommodation on this route is mostly camping with designated camping grounds along the way.
Averagely, it takes about 6-7 days on Chogoria route.
Wildlife encounters on this route as not as common as on other routes.
This route is one of the less crowded trekking routes on Mt. Kenya with little travelers’ traffic.
