4-Day Mount Kenya Trek via Sirimon Route

4-DAY MOUNT KENYA TREK VIA SIRIMON ROUTE: Take on the 2nd highest mountain in Africa via the beautiful and scenic Sirimon route on this 4-day Mt. Kenya climbing adventure approaching the mountain from the North West side near Nanyuki town. This side of the mountain receives little to no rain making it a drier side providing the best trekking conditions.

MOUNT KENYA TREK VIA SIRIMON ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS

Day 1: Nairobi to Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp (2,650 – 3,300m)
Day 2: Old Moses Camp to Shipton Camp (3,300 – 4,200m)
Day 3: Shipton camp to Lenana Point (4,985m) and Descent to Old Moses Camp
Day 4: Old Moses Camp to Sirimon Gate – Nairobi Departure

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Sirimon Gate to Old Moses Camp (2,650 – 3,300m)

Hiking time: 3-4 hours
Depart Nairobi early morning for Nanyuki town at the base of Mt. Kenya, have lunch and then drive to Sirimon gate to complete some formalities, meet with the rest of the crew and then start your climb on Mt. Kenya. On a relatively achievable hike through the lush forest, you will reach Old Moses camp for night one.

Day 2: Old Moses Camp to Shipton Camp (3,300 – 4,200m)

Hiking time: 6-7 hours
Continue your hike out of the forest and through the moorland till you get to Shipton hut for night two on the mountain. Enjoy the scenic views of your surroundings on this day as you hike expecting to spot some animals and beautiful bird and plant species.

Day 3: Shipton camp to Lenana Point (4,985m) and Descent to Old Moses Camp

With your warm clothes on, your headlamp on and your hiking poles at hand, you will make your final ascent to the summit as early as 3:00am so that you make it to the summit at Lenana point by sunrise. Take some time to take in the moment at the top and some photos for keeps. Thereafter, descend back to Shipton camp for a well-deserved breakfast. Some rest after which you will continue down to Old Moses camp for night three.
